TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State men's golf team shot a combined 13-over-par 297 in the opening round of the Nelson Invitational hosted by Stanford University, placing the Sun Devils 15th. Colorado State is the early leader after matching par at 284.
Freshman Chris O'Connor was the highest Sun Devil finisher with a one-over-par 72, placing him in a large group tied for 26th place. Tulsa's Martin Marciz sit atop the leaderboard at four-under-par.
Currently in a tie for 48th is ASU's Shane Mcnamy at plus three. Other Sun Devil finishers were senior Jason Hause in 78th place (six-over par), and freshman Kurt Mayr, whose first round score of 78 places him in a group at seven-over-par.
The Nelson Invitational continues with 18 holes tomorrow and concludes with a final round on Sunday.
