Sophomore Jami Coughlin tallied 16 kills but it was not enough as 11th-ranked BYU defeated the Sun Devils, 3-1, tonight in Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores were 15-7, 9-15, 10-15, 2-15.
Senior Jamie Peck added 14 kills to the cause as well as three block assists. Junior outside hitter Amanda Burbridge notched 11 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Defensive specialist Terese Robb set a career- and season-high with three service aces. Coughlin hit .441 on the evening (16-1-34) while Peck hit .440 (14-3-25).
For the Cougars, Mari Carpenter led all players with 20 kills on the night. Five hitters ended the night in double figures including Nina Puikkonen (19 kills), Caroline Bower (15 kills), Sunny Tonga (13 kills) and Melissa Layton (11 kills). Setter Anna-Lena Smith added 64 assists and a team-high 13 digs to the effort.
