TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State outside hitter had a match-high 20 kills but it wasn't enough as the Sun Devils fell to No. 18 USC, 3-1, in volleyball action tonight in Los Angeles, Calif. Game scores were 15-12, 13-15, 9-15, 9-15.
ASU started fast, hitting .306 in the first game but couldn't maintain the pace against the Trojans. The Sun Devils were outhit .216 to .192 for the match. USC also outblocked Arizona State, 10 to 5.
Outside hitter Robyn Mattingly added 11 kills for ASU while setter Becky Sidoti and outside hitter Jami Coughlin added 14 digs each. Middle blocker Jennifer Pahl led the Trojans with 18 kills while hitting .382 for the match. Five USC players registered 10 or more kills. Kashi Cormier added 13 kills and a team-high 14 digs, while junior outside hitter Janae Henry notched 11 kills, 10 digs and three service aces.
The Sun Devils are back in action tomorrow night against 11th-ranked UCLA at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
