TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's soccer team defeated the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, 5-0, Friday night at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
The Sun Devils (4-2) blasted the Rebels for four goals in the second half, scoring on their first two shots of the half. Jennifer Peterson set up Stacey Tullock with a 10-yard pass through traffic when Tullock blasted a shot from 15-yards out. Only 45 seconds later, Tullock notched her second goal of the game on a penalty kick. Karine Inoue received an aggressive push in the back inside the box that set up Tullock's sixth goal of the season. Antoinette Marjanovic recorded two goals of her own. Her first, in the 39th minute, was the first goal of the game. After a UNLV foul, Marjanovic headed the ball past the Rebels' goalkeeper, off a Tullock free kick. Her second goal came in the 55th minute on a break away. Marjanovic's initial shot was blocked by Shannon Wilson, the UNLV goalkeeper, but when the ball skipped away from Wilson, Marjanovic punched it in the goal. The fifth goal came in the 66th minute when Jessica Bohl connected on the second penalty kick of the game. ASU out shot UNLV 22-7. The 22 shots compiled by ASU were a season high.
Erin Reinke (1 save) and Kristin Slater (2 saves) worked together to share the Sun Devils second shut out of the season.
The Sun Devils next action will be home against #24 Iowa State, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
