ASU's Frosh Nagl Wins Tourney

Sept. 15, 1999

Sun Devil freshman Miriam Nagl started her career in top fashion as the newcomer from Germany won the NCAA Fall Preview held at the Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Ore.

Nagl shot a 69 on the final day, matching the best round of the tourment, to finish at 5-under-par 211 (70-72-69).

The Sun Devils, who return only one player from last year's NCAA runner-up team and have an all-underclass lineup, finished a strong fourth with a 27-over-par 891 (300-297-294). Duke won the tournament with an 878 (294-293-291).

Sophomore Caroline Laurens finished with a 9-over 225 and finished tied for 20th. Sophomore Lisa Meredith (76-80-73=229) tied for 34th, freshman Blair O'Neal tied for 39th (75-77-78=230) and junior Molly Cooper tied for 55th (79-77-77=233).

The last Sun Devil to earn medalist honors in her first tournament was 1999 NCAA Champion Grace Park, who won the 1997 NCAA Preview.
