Ned Wulk Court

October 8, 1998

ASU ATHLETIC DIRECTOR KEVIN WHITE

"In the spring an event will occur to honor Coach Wulk and I couldnt be more honored and proud to bring you that news this morning."

"In my view, we will be celebrating yet another great Sun Devil tradition this spring. Ned Wulk made winning a tradition at this institution. Hes a great Sun Devil and I think everybody realizes that and savors that. This is a guy that has also stayed connected after his coaching career in a way that I havent experienced at another institution and I dont think anyone else has as well. He has season tickets in basketball, center court. Youll see him at every contest. Season tickets in football. Attends all the other events that hes capable of getting to, whether it be athletic contests, receptions or whatever. Again, Ned Wulk has continued to be a great, great Sun Devil."

"We will be honoring one of our greats in Ned on Friday, March 5th, at a dinner, and on Saturday, March 6th, at halftime of the ASU-USC game, we will be officially dedicating the playing surface, the floor of Wells Fargo Arena, Ned Wulk Court."

"Ned won the first 20 games every played in this building. He was 94-24 at home. I think you all know the numbers 406 wins at Arizona State and 495 wins in his career. The playing surface at your basketball arena will be named Ned Wulk Court."

"Its with great honor and pride that we are here to talk about this event this morning. Its a long time coming. Its terribly befitting. Ned, were all proud of all of your good work in representing this institution. Thank you, Ned."

ASU HEAD COACH ROB EVANS

"It is a tremendous honor for me to be here this morning and to serve as honorary co-chairman of this event. Coach Wulk, I remember because I was a player in a number of the years that he was here. The things that he has accomplished is mind-boggling to me. One thing that I always remembered about his basketball teams is the tremendous effort that they gave on the basketball court. This is one thing that I want to promise Coach Wulk: In honoring Ned Wulk Court, we want our basketball team to exemplify that same toughness and effort that his basketball teams gave."

"Four hundred six wins is unbelievable, but the thing that I also remembered about him is his giving. The things that he did. Hes been an ASU Sun Devil all over and he still is. Hes spent an awful lot of time with me, and trying to get me adjusted to ASU basketball. For that, Im very thankful."

"I hope to retire here. I came here to retire. This is my dream job, but I think Coach Wulk can feel safe that your 406 wins are very, very safe."

FORMER ASU HEAD COACH NED WULK

"It goes without saying that the honor that is being bestowed upon methe appreciation that I have for that."

"The first time someone approached me on this honor, I said, Boy, this thing is really going to floor me. It probably will over the years."

"I just want to thank everyone who is responsible for this, particularly the players who were on the court. I hope that this turns out even better than it started. Im overwhelmed by it and again, Im floored."
