TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State senior Gustavo Marcaccio advanced to the round of 16 in the singles consolation draw at the ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships in Austin, Texas.
Marcaccio dropped the first set and was extended to three sets before finishing off University of Alabama-Birmingham's Martin Woisetchlager, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3. For a chance to move on to the quarterfinals, Marcaccio will face a familiar foe in Saturday's match when he takes on Stanford's Geoff Abrams at 9:00 a.m.
ASU's other singles consolation entrance, senior Jeff Williams, failed to advance as he was upset in three sets by Myles Clouston of Wake Forest, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In the doubles consolation bracket, ASU's tandem of Ed Carter and Jeff Williams were defeated by Texas' Michael Blue and Brandon Hawk, 6-4, 7-6 (1).
