Sprinter Jamol James made his Sun Devil debut at the Baldy Castillo Invitational last week at Sun Angel Stadium, setting a personal best in the long jump at 7.44m (24-5.00) and then winning the 100m dash at 10.47, which is currently the No. 3 time in the NCAA West.

Why did you choose Arizona State University?
Weather was the closest thing to home and also had better career opportunities.
How did your family react to your college decision?
Happy and with full support because I was the first in my family to go to college.
When did you begin competing and why?
At nine to represent my school at a local meet.
When did you realize you could compete at the Division I level?
At 16.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Making the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic team when I was a freshman.
What is one weakness that you’d like to improve moving forward?
Letting things go and understanding that the world doesn’t always work the way it is supposed to.
Have you decided on a major?
I’m getting my BA in interdisciplinary studies.

Soccer and now football
