TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State sophomore Eric Larkin and assistant coach Aaron Simpson both qualified for the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials with their showings at the U.S. National Wrestling Championships held April 21-22 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Larkin finished fifth at 63 kilograms (138.75 pounds), while Simpson took fourth at 76 kilos (167.5) in the freestyle competition. The 1999 Pac-10 Conference champion at 133 pounds who redshirted this season, Larkin was one of just three wrestlers with college eligibility remaining to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Both ASU wrestlers will now continue on to the U.S. Olympic Trials which will be held June 21-14 in Dallas, Texas. Wrestlers qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials by either winning a regional tournament or finishing in the top six at the U.S. National Championships.
