Arizona State sophomore left-hander Jon Switzer and Washington junior right-hander Jeff Carlsen have been named Pac-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 3-9, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Switzer from Houston, Texas pitched eight shutout innings as ASU defeated Oregon State 1-0 on Friday night. Switzer scattered six hits while holding the Beavers to a .200 average at the plate. Switzer recorded 10 strikeouts, tying his career high. The lefty got out of two bases-loaded jams - once in the second and in the fourth to preserve the shutout. Switzer improves to 7-1 on the year with a 2.63 ERA. He is leading the team with 82 strikeouts while holding opponent batters to a .180 average.
Switzer's 2.63 ERA and .180 opponent batting average rank third in the conference. He leads the conference in games started (12) and is second in innings pitched (78.2).
The Pitcher of the Week honor is the second for Switzer this season and his career and the 40th all-time selection for Arizona State.
