TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State sophomore designated hitter Joey DeMichele will participate in the 2011 College Home Run Derby at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha on July 2. CBS will televise the event nationwide on July 3 at 11 a.m. Arizona time.
DeMichele (Phoenix, Ariz.) will compete against Georgia Southern's Victor Roache, College of Charleston's Daniel Aldrich, Virginia Tech's Andrew Rash, Bucknell's Doug Shribman, East Tennessee State's Dylan Pratt, Vanderbilt's Connor Harrell and one more contestant to be named later. Last season, ETSU's Paul Hoilman won the first ever College Home Run Derby.
DeMichele won the Pac-10 batting title with his .368 average and led the conference with his .663 slugging percentage. He hit nine homers during the season, including two in the NCAA Tournament and was named a First Team All-American by the ABCA and a Third Team All-American by Baseball America. He is currently playing for the Hyannis HarborHawk in the Cape Cod League.
