Tempe, Ariz.- ASU's Head Football Strength and Conditioning coach, Joe Kenn, has been nominated by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for the College Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year award. When NSCA members vote they consider the following criteria: candidate must be a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, makes contributions toward the advancement of the strength and conditioning profession, and makes contributions toward the advancement of the NSCA. Contributions toward the NSCA include journal contributions, committee work, and conference speaking.
Kenn has a bachelor's degree in Science in Health and Sport Science from Wake Forest University. He also has a master's in Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Boise State University. Kenn spoke at the Nike Coach of the Year Conference this year. He has also written articles for the Strength and Conditioning Journal. In 1999, Kenn presented at the Sport-Specific Training Conference and was also awarded the NSCA certification Committee Bronze Award.
Other nominees for the award include Russell Barbarino, University of Delaware, Eric Burkhardt, University of California, Irvine, Joe Owens, University of Dayton, Rick Perry, Southwest Missouri State University, and Michael Sanders, University of Denver. Last year's award winner was John Taylor from New Mexico State University.
