Inside ASU Football With Coach Koetter

INSIDE ARCHIVE

I hope everyone will check out "Murphy's Law", a new column on the website written by our punter, Nick Murphy. Murph really kicked the ball well during spring football and also excelled in the classroom. He is a sharp guy and his insights will be fun for our fans to follow.

Please know that as I write this column each week, I am not trying to create controversy, (i.e. whether Sun Devils should wear Gold or Maroon to the games) but rather to let you know what is going on within the football program at any given time.

A quick recap of the last ten days:
Our staff had a lot of laughs at the Women's Football Clinic on May 30th. We had 130 energetic and knowledgeable female fans turn out at the Phoenix Country Club. They asked some tough questions and the coaches tried to give them a few terms to use on their significant others. Our thanks to three local media members, Paola Boivin, Jody Jackson, and Gayle Jansen, for their presentations.

On June 3rd, we had our "inaugural" one-day instructional camp for "seniors-to-be." We had 125 student athletes from Arizona, California, Texas, Michigan, and Idaho attend to work with the coaching staff on fundamentals, as well as some "one-on-one" competition.

Last week, we had our half-day instructional camp for grades 7-12 with 207 participants almost equally divided between grades 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Some of the top high school coaches in the area were on hand to help our coaches offer instruction to every position. Also, George Wynn, our director of football operations, kept all of our camps running smoothly. Thanks as well to Infinity Sports Marketing and the Sun Angel Foundation for all of their help in making our camps such a success.

Next week, I will update you on our Friday Night passing leagues (over 50 teams competing) and the "Win in the Trenches" competition for linemen (over 30 teams participating).

The coaching staff is very excited about what is going on in our Summer Program. Coach Joe Kenn and his staff are going a great job. The enthusiasm and work ethic of the players has been most impressive. Not only are they working hard in the weight room, but their conditioning is really coming along as well. We had 78 guys show up at 6:00 AM last Thursday morning to work on 300-yard shuttle runs. More on this next time.

GO DEVILS!
