In Memory: Pat Tillman

In Memory: Pat Tillman

Jay Eldridge-
I just heard about Pat Tillman's death. I am greatly saddened by this tragedy. Pat's unselfishness to this country deserves special mention. He displayed his heart and courage and hopefully the University can find some special way to recognize his life. My prayers go out to his family and all those at ASU who have been touched by him during his brief but very inspiring life.

Nick McDowell-
My Heart is out to all ASU followers and the parents and family of Mr Pat Tillman. I am an avid Uof Ariz. fan,but have very glossy eyes as I type this. Mr Tillman was a spirit to be unequaled. I am sorry for the loss to the whole state of Arizona.

Chuck White-
Pat Tillman's sacrifice for this country and his clear sense of what it important, makes me proud to say that I attended ASU!

Bill Benedict (Dallas, TX)
Having attended ASU while Tilly was there, I felt a bit of a personal blow when I heard the news of his all too soon passing. I didn't personally know him, but when I would watch him, to me he embodied everything that is right in athletics - the undersized, overachiever who leaves everything out there for his team.

His team then became the Army Rangers, and we all owe him a debt of gratitude. God bless you, Pat, and peace be with your family. You will be missed.

Hi There. Something needs to be done to honor Pat Tillman at one of the ASU Home Games this year. He sacrificed for his country and lost his life. I send my condolences to his family, the ASU football family. RIP P.T.
Respectfully,
Jason Llewellyn USN/ret

I am deeply saddened that this world has lost a great person in Pat Tillman. My heart goes out to all of his friends and family at time of great loss. I am proud to be an American and a Sun Devil knowing Pat did all he could to protect our freedoms, he will be missed.

Stephanie Kohner, Scottsdale, AZ.
Though I didn't know Pat I want to send my deepest sympathies and prayers. Not many people would give up playing in the NFL to go fight for our country. God bless the families and friends that are being affected by this loss.

Carl Cunningham, Chandler, AZ
A friend of mine put it quite well. We should all hope that our children turn out to be half as good a person as Pat Tillman.

All of us could have such high aspirations.

ASU should retire his number.

Karen - Gilbert, Arizona
Today is a sad day for so many people, but my thoughts are truly with his family and wife-they have lost a very special person in their lives.

We so enjoyed watching Pat play for ASU (as ASU alumni and huge Sun Devil fans). He was truly an amazing person, and is a true hero in every sense of the word.

We lived in Tempe-behind the Cardinals headquarters-when Pat was playing for them, and I'll never forget backing the car out of my driveway one morning on the way to work and seeing him bicycling through the neighborhood, no doubt on his way to an early workout. A man who was being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, and here he was bicycling to practice. We're thankful that he was willing to sacrifice everything for what he believed in, and he's a sports figure I'd be proud to have my 4-year old daughter look up to and remember.

All our love and prayers to Pat's family and wife--we will miss him too.

Linda, Phoenix, AZ
I pray that the Tillman family can endure this incredible loss.I had the pleasure of meeting Pat when he was a Sun Devil, and I will never forget him. His life is an inspiration to every American.

Deb (Newburgh, NY)
My broken hearted prayers and thoughts go out to the entire Tillman family. I have thought of Pat often as the original NY TIMES newspaper article featuring him sits in my kitchen and will continue to do so as a reminder of his bravery and ultimate sacrifice.

My deepest, deepest sympathies.

Nick T (Huntington Beach, CA)
As an avid ASU football fan/alum, Pat Tillman is my favorite all-time Sun Devil. He is the epitome of courage both on the football field and in serving his country.

I expect both Arizona State and the AZ Cardinals to honor Pat's death in such a significant way that we'll remember his patriotic contribution in years to come.

For all of those mourning Pat's death and remembering him in their prayers, please do not forget our other soldiers who've died protecting our freedom.

Keith-Everett, Washington

We all salute Pat Tillman for his heroic deeds and his patriotism. In a time when athletes whine about everything, Pat showed what a hero is all about. Our prayers are with his family and all of the rest of the American Serviceman. R.I.P. Pat,you will be truly missed.

Ian Sullivan: Peoria, AZ
It was so fun watching Pat play football for both ASU and the Cardinals. As a matter of fact, he was one of my favorite players. It was a tough choice to give up such a great career, but I am honored that he fought for my rights as an American. Pat Tillman is a fine example of bravery, courage, strenghth, and patriot. God bless Pat's family and friends.

Mike Kallay (San Diego, CA)
There was always something different about Pat. An intangible quality that drove him to be so accomplished, yet so humble.

I was proud to see him represent the maroon & gold. I was even more proud to see him make it in the NFL. Seeing him leave everything to fight for what he believed made me feel such awe of his character. I felt very proud to be a Sun Devil. An American. A Human Being.

Gold Bless the Tillman family. We are all the richer for having known Pat. I hope that his life inspires others the way it is inspring mine.

Loren (chandler, Arizona)
Pat is one of the greatest examples I will find in my lifetime. Words can't express enough the respect his memory commends. He is truely one in a million. Maybe in his death, through inspiring others he can do more good then had he remained. Even though I never met him, he has made me a better person. I look forward to the day I can meet him in the next life and thank him for his courage and sacifice so my family and I can live in freedom.

Brian Dean, Phoenix, AZ
In no way can my feeble words describe the sacrifice that Mr. Tillman has made for all those who support freedom and our way of life. On behalf of my family, I'd like express my deepest condolences to the Tillman family, and to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for his service to our country. I pray that I might someday be successful in raising my children to aspire to the level of courage, selflessness, and patriotism that Mr. Tillman displayed throughout his all too short life. God bless you Pat Tillman, there are not nearly enough like you.

Kim Johnson, Chandler, Arizona
Pat Tillman is/was my favorite all-time ASU Football player, and student-athlete, period. It's such a shame he could not come home. My thoughts will be with him always. Kim Johnson Chandler, AZ ASU, Alumni, 1981 Sun Angel ASU Football, Baseball, Basketball season ticket holder

Brian Ehrig (Redondo Beach, CA)
I was in the college of business at the same time as Pat and shared classes with him. I always admired his ability to succeed both on and off the field. When I found out he planned to forego millions of dollars to serve our country, I thought to myself "Now there is a true patriot." When I heard the news of his death, I felt like I lost someone close to me, event though I didn't personally know him. He had that kind of impact.

God bless him and may he rest in peace.

we watched Pat from his ASU days to the AZ. Cards. his death is a shock to all who watched and met him. My son Patrick (Pat)was born April 22, 2004 at 11:18 and was named after his grandfather, but my wife and I both are proud that he has a role model like Pat Tillman! being a former Army Ranger and ASU grad. it saddens me to hear about Pat, our prayers are with his wife and family. "Rangers lead the way" I will make sure my son knows about Pat Tillman.

Turley McWherter, Glendale, AZ
Pat is a true American Hero. I am proud to say I was a fellow American to Pat. Watching him play football at ASU one of my best sports memories. I was able to tell him just that at a celebration following the Rose Bowl loss at the ASU Activity Center. I told Pat he was really fun to watch play football. I new at that time he would make it in the NFL as long as some team would give him a chance. What Pat did for all of us so we can continue to injoy College football will never be forgotten. All the best to Pat's wife and family and God speed to Kevin.

Tom & Susan Tempe, Az
Pat Tillman raised the bar in regards to what a student-athlete could achieve. He then raised the bar for a role model as a professional athlete. His decision to pursue what he believed was his calling when he enlisted to be a Ranger and fight for his country raised the bar the highest in my eyes. He became a HERO to me many years ago.

Today he became a HERO to thousands of Americans that never knew him. I truly believe he would have accomplished so much more in his lifetime. My wife and I will cherish our memories of him forever. Thank you for letting us know you.

Our prayers and condolences go out to Maria, Kevin and all of the Tillman family.

Pat Tillman ..... a real good American.

I am truly saddened by this day. Anything that I write has already been said about Pat. One cannot say enough good things about him. I was fortunate enough to be a student athlete at ASU the same years that he was there. He was truly one of kind. Although he is not a family member or close friend of mine, I feel like I've lost one. What a tragic loss for our country. A true idol and hero.

My prayers will go out to Pat's wife and family. May God Bless our troops and our country. Thank you, Pat, for fighting for us.

First of all, I am thankfull to have met Pat Tillman on one occasion with my brother, prior to the ASU/UofA game, where he told us that he hoped to do us proud in the upcoming game, and he did (ASU beat the U of A 56-14, on its way to the Rose Bowl). Being an Alum, I followed Pat's career closely in the NFL, attended most of his games, and enjoyed Pat's No. 40 ("Bill Bates" style of reckless abandon football played on the field). I later tried to pick up bits and pieces of info. on him while he was in the Military.

Words cannot express the shock and sadness of the loss to us all today, both for us here in Arizona, and for our country as a whole. We need more Pat Tillmans in this world! In following his career and life story, Pat represented the best in us all!

May God bless and comfort his family and us all during this time of grief, and may we all strive to achieve some of the ideals that he held in such high esteem. God Bless You Pat, and thanks for touching our lives in such a special way!

David Cerull - Avondale, AZ
The first year I attended ASU was the year that Tillman helped take the Sun Devils to the Rose Bowl in the magical undefeated 1996 season. Him and his teammates made me feel proud to be a Sun Devil, and when he made the decision to become an U.S. Army Ranger along with his brother, he made me feel proud to be an American. Pat Tillman had intelligence, a strong sense of right and wrong, a strong patriotic sense of duty, and more than the average person's allotment of courage to act on his convictions. I am thankful and proud that he was part of my ASU experience, and my experience as a human being and an American.

Thanks, Pat - You will be very hard to replace, but your spirit will live on in this Sun Devil.

I just wanted to send out my thoughts and prayers to those closest to Mr. Pat Tillman. I too was deeply affected by the events of September 11th, but I would never have the courage to do what he did for our country. I truly appreciate all of our soldiers, but I have to say that Pat was a very special case. To serve our country, giving up a great career and leaving behind a loving family, is beyond anything that I think many of us can begin to comprehend. Thank you to Pat for his leadership, his courage, and for being an all-around great man. I am proud to say that I go to a great school where a great man once spent his college career. I also wanted to give recognition to the parents of the Tillman's to say thank you for being extraordinary parents. Clearly it was by their leadership and example that these great kids of came to be. Again, the Tillman family and friends will continue to be in my prayers. May God bless you all.

We were terribly saddened to hear today of Pat's death. We are both alumni of ASU and have followed his career both at ASU and with the Cardinals. We were lucky enough to see Pat play in the Rose Bowl in 1997 and that will always be a special game to us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family at this time. We hope it brings some solace to them to know that there are many of us who even though we did not know Pat, we respected him greatly for his courage, his patriotism, and his humility.

LTC Randy White, US Army
I never knew Ranger Tillman, but as a graduate of Ranger school I have a great appreciation for what it took for him to join that special band of brothers. Clearly a man of true character, which sadly seems in short supply these days. Hopefully his example will inspire others. God Bless his wife, brother and the parents who clearly instilled in him the realization that there are things greater than oneself.

Bob Fosnot , McMurray, Pa.
I,like Pat Tillman, graduated from ASU in Marketing. The state of Arizona and the ASU community should be aware of how inspirational his heroism has spread throughout our country. Here in the Pittsburgh area, the sports talkshows were flooded with calls paying tribute to him. Words don't exist to express his sacrifice nor to describe the amount of prayers and condolances to his family. God Bless.

6Message : Words cannot express the sorry I feel on this day. You were truly an extraordinary human being, which all of us need to stride for. I watched you at everygame at ASU and with your years with the Cardinals and was sorry to see you go, but knew that you lived you life with conviction, passion and honor. I thank you and all the others that are willing to fight for the freedom that we "should never" take for granted. Because freedom is not free, it comes at a very high price... someones life. May God be with your wife and family and continue to watch and guide your brother. For me you are the pride of the desert!! God bless you with peace you so richly deserve, you will be missed, but not forgotten. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your sacrifice you gave. In Christ's love, Deb
