In Memory Pat Tillman

April 28, 2004

Julie (Oswego, IL)
An article about Pat joining the armed forces still hangs on my bulletin board in my classroom. Many of my students who read it did not know about him entering the army. That article will remain there forever and now I sadly will also post the article about his death. He is a true role model for all of America's youth and will remain so forever. His legacy makes me even more proud to say I'm a Sundevil.

i did not know mr. tillman nor did i ever see him play football, however ever since i read that he had given everything up and enlisted in the service of our country, i had followed any news of him with eagerness. i was absolutley stunned and brought to tears when i heard the news of his death. as the details unfolded, all i could think of was (selfishly) the injustice of what had happened to him. even now it is hard to write down the feelings i have for this tremendous loss. to the family of mr. tillman, please accept my condolences for your loss. i will never forget your son, brother, husband for as long as i live.

I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to see Pat play in college and the pros. What a tremendous loss as a TRUE role model to all. As a junior high religious education teacher and a person who spends time counciling with young adults, I cannot find a better example of attitude and the part it plays in a persons success or failure in life, than the life of Pat Tillman. He accomplished more in life at 27 than most men do in 3 times that amount of time. Parents, if you want to honor this wonderful man who saw life as few do, DO NOT LET HIM BE FORGOTTEN. Save your newspapers, magazine articles, video newsclips. Teach your children of Pat and what a person with a positive attitude can do and don't let them whine their lives away. Teaching our children to become a world of Pat Tillmans, can you think of a better way to change the world? May God truly bless you Pat as you enjoy His company in your final glory. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Tillman for the incredible gift of your son to all the world.

A SOLDIER IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME CAN CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF A WAR. I THINK THIS IS WHY PAT JOINED, TO DO HIS DUTY FOR GOD AND COUNTRY. WE DO NOT CHOOSE OUR BATTLE FIELD, GOD DOES THAT FOR US. BUT WE CAN DETERMINE THE OUTCOME. GOD BLESS ALL THE TROOPS! SEMPER FI

Pat Tillman represented what is missing in todays world. He was unselfish, thoughtful, brilliant, and loved his country, among many other attributes. This past weekend we saw what is wrong with todays society at the NFL draft and the actions of a certain individual and his entire family. The Tillman family can take great pride in Pat and all of his accomplishments during his short, but well lived time on this earth. Pat was a true AMERICAN HERO in every sense of the word. May he rest in peace....

I met Pat once my senior year at ASU, and I remember thinking this kid will go far and do great things, and he did. Pat will be remembered by all of us throughout the world. He is the model for the future to live by. His family are in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

The Tillman Family, I did not "know" your son, brother, husband, but I did get to shake his hand on several occasions during his time at ASU. It is rare today that one gets the opportunity to meet a man of HONOR, but I did and so did my grandsons, Christopher and Kameron. To maintain an amazing grade point average, complete his education in record time, play a demanding sport and excell in it made him special to all of us before the Ranger uniform and after the Ranger uniform, to know he was giving ALL to his country made him even more special. HERO = PAT TILLMAN. Take comfort from our prayers to all of you. Sincere Sympathy from my family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Tillman family in this time of grief. I was speechless when I heard the news and immediately called friends to talk with them about the impact Pat had made on us. He will serve as an inspiration to me and to everyone - he truly is a hero in that he did what he believed in and did it without question!

I met Pat Tillman while I was in School at ASU. He was a great person who definitley followed his heart. After on ASU game, the Sun Bowl I believe, my wife and I ran into Pat on the field as he was leaving and my wife asked for his autograph because he was a big star. He replied that he wasn't a big star and he would be thrilled to sign for her. He asked her name and signed it personally for her. He was super nice to her and she now cherishes that autograph. God bless Pat Tillman and Via Con Dios.

The more you know about Pat the more you realize the magnitude of the loss. Yet, his story will be an inspiration for years to come. He set a high standard. He always gave his all. Others will rise to greater heights because of Pat Tillman.

A true American hero. My heart goes out to his loved ones, and all his friends that loved him. You do not read of such heroes too often anymore. He must have had wonderful parents. They must be very proud of him. May he now rest in peace.

Pat Tillman is true inspiration to me. He stood for what is right in this world. Not money, fame, or recognition on the front page. He did what his heart told him and made those who watched him better for it. I can just hope to be half the man Pat was. I am currently playing college football at eastern arizonia college. I have and will continue to strive to model my game and personality after Pat. He was driven, goal orriented, modest, and used his heart to drive him into becoming whatever he wanted to be. He was a man everyone could learn from. I have put a lot of thought into my future after my years here. I was contemplating joining the army before Pats death but now I feel with my whole heart it is the right thing to do. I want to become an exceptional person just like Pat was. His death is a great loss to everyone... but Pat Tillman and what he stood for will never be forgotten, not by this heart. Sincerely, Rowdy Ellsworth

If ever there was a definition of what a true hero is, that definition was Pat Tillman. In seeing the cover of the N.Y. Post on Sunday, April 25, 2004 of him in his Army Ranger uniform, I was filled with true emotion and pride. I think that this picture of him will be ingrained in my memory of what it is to be a true "Hero". We should all rejoice in the fact that he was defending our freedom, even though we are saddened by his loss. If any of my sons ever ask me what a true hero is, I'll tell them the story of Pat Tillman. God Bless him, and God Bless America. America is a safer place because he made the ultimate sacrifice, and heaven has a new hero in its midst.

Just a great story with such a sad ending. Of all the sports star, with their records, money Pat was my true super hero! Nothing, more can explain a person then his actions. Best wishes, Kevin Collins

My heart was broken when I learned the news about Pat. We went to ASU together. I spent that day teaching my students about what a real hero is and a person of character. Heaven is lucky to have you. Thank you for everything, Pat.

Pat Tillman is true hero to this country. I am grateful for his sacrifice & the sacrifice of others serving in the military that are just like Pat in many ways. I think Pat would not want us to forget them at this time of mourning.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Tillman family and friends. I too have a son in the military and realize that each man and woman who are in the service are all special people. I am very proud of each and everyone of them. For without them we would not be enjoying the freedoms that we all have. Please know that although your son/husband/friend is not physically with us his spirit will live on and he is such an inspiration to the rest of the world. Thank you for having such an awesome member of your family! Lynn Bo...Tulsa, Oklahoma

I will forever be thankful to Mr. Tillman and other men and women in the military for their service for this great country. I am 30 years old and have never looked upon anyone as a "true" hero. Not anymore. I can now say I have a hero. Peace be with you.

thank you.

To the Tillman Family and Friends, I am deeply saddened for what has happened to Pat and my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I am the same age as Pat and attended ASU with Pat but I never knew him personally. I wish I had the privelage. I know he was a great football player and a great man. I am proud to say that I went to college with him. Most importantly I am proud that he is an American. To make the decision he did and to give up what he had to go defend our country in my mind makes him a TRUE GREAT AMERICAN HERO. He will always be a hero to me. His wonderful spirit and patriotism is unlike any other. I will never forget him and what he has done for our country.

As a father of six children I know the anger and frustration I felt after 9/11 made me want to somehow take action. Pat Tillman did just that in spite of his sacrifice for fame and fortune. Truely this man was a special person and an inspiration to all American's. God bless him and his family. He will remain an inspiration to me and will never be forgotten.

Joan Grund Phoenix, AZ
I so enjoyed watching Pat play ball at ASU and for the Cardinals. He has always been one of our favorite players and we were not surprised that he gave up his NFL career to fight for his country. It was the kind of person he was. He and Kevin have been in our prayers from the day it was announced they were joining the Rangers. They will continue to be in our prayers as will their family, friends and loved ones.
