Arizona State University junior All-American forward Ike Diogu has announced he will remain in the 2005 NBA Draft.
"After going through the process my family and I have decided it is in my best interests professionally to stay in the NBA Draft," said Diogu. "Arizona State has been very supportive of me and has been a great place for me both as a student and as a basketball player."
Diogu, the 2004-05 Pac-10 Player of the Year and the first consenus All-American in ASU history (second-team), scored 1,946 points in his 91-game career (21.4 points per game). He is ASU's third all-time leading scorer and is 19th on the Pac-10 career list.
Last year, he led the Pac-10 in scoring (22.6 ppg.), rebounding (9.8 rpg.) and blocks (2.34 bpg.), the first player since blocks became an official statistic in 1977-78 to lead the Pac-10 in all three categories. He also topped the Pac-10 last year in field goal percentage (.575), offensive boards (3.69), double-doubles (15), 20-point games (21), 40-minutes games (13) and minutes per game (36.38). He also led the league in Pac-10 game-only stats in points (22.3), offensive rebounds (4.06) and minutes per game (37.78) and was second with 9.2 boards per game.
"Ike has been a tremendous Sun Devil since the day he signed his letter of intent and we are very thankful to him for all his hard work. He has been loyal, accountable and above all a great role model for all student-athletes," says ASU head coach Rob Evans. "His numbers and consistency have been incredible, and our staff expects that to continue at the next level."
The Garland, Texas, native scored in double digits in all 91 games of his career and made 248 free throws in 2004-05, breaking his own Pac-10 record of 243 set in 2003-04. He led the nation in free throws made (248) and attempted (311) this past season.
With 671 made free throws in his career, Diogu is second only to UCLA's Don MacLean (711 from 1988-92) in the Pac-10 record book. His 854 attempts is second only to Stanford's Adam Keefe (886 from 1988-92).
He posted 11 30-point games and 50 20-point games in his career.
Diogu became just the third Pac-10 player to lead the league in both scoring (22.6 ppg.) and rebounding (9.8 rpg.), joining A.C. Green of Oregon State (1984-85) and Mark McNamara of California (1981-82).
