Gym Devils Look to Qualify for 21st NCAA Championship Appearance

CORVALLIS, Ore.--Making its second trip to the Northwest in two weeks, the Arizona State women's gymnastics team competes in the 2013 NCAA West Regional, hosted by Oregon State, Saturday in Corvallis, Ore. The meet will be live streamed by OSU starting at 4 p.m. PT.

ASU will join top-seed and fourth-ranked Georgia, No. 10 Oregon State, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 21 Boise State and California at the NCAA West Regional. The top 36 teams in the country qualify for the NCAA Regionals with the top-18 teams seeded on a national basis based on a team's RQS score.

The Sun Devils begin regional competition on bars, one of the strongest events for the team in recent weeks. Grad student Kahoku Palafox earned second-team All-Pac-12 bar honors this season for her overall event average and her career-high score of 9.900 on bars at the Pac-12 Championships.

The Gym Devils will make their second trip to Corvallis in two weeks as ASU just finished Pac-12 Championship competition, hosted by Oregon State. Finishing eighth in the conference, the Sun Devils look to improve on their previous performance and get a second chance on the same equipment in the same facility.

The top-two teams will from each of the nation's six regionals will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles. Under head coach John Spini, the Gym Devils have qualified for 32 NCAA Regionals and last made an appearance at the NCAA Championships in 2006.
