TEMPE, Ariz. - Domenik Peterson (Jefferson City, Mo.) has been selected as the Pac-10 Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. A freshman on the Arizona State track and field team, Peterson garnered the first award presented this season by the Pac-10 as he won the 200m dash at the Sun Angel Classic presented by Coca-Cola over the weekend.
At the final home meet of the season, Peterson clocked a 20.62 to not only win the race, but also turn in the fastest time in the nation at the time. He now stands second in the collegiate lists this season following Florida State's Brian Dzingai at 20.36. Peterson also ranks as the eighth-fastest in program history and is ranked No. 1 in the Pac-10.
Peterson was joined by three other honorees this week. Dan Ames (UCLA) was named the male recipient of the field award while Sofie Abildtrup (Oregon) and Sheena Gordon (UCLA) earned the women's track and field honors, respectively.
The Sun Devils return to action this weekend as they travel to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays. The event will be held April 16-17.
