Four Sun Devils Earn All-MPSF Water Polo Honors

TEMPE – The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced its 2015 All-MPSF team on Tuesday afternoon and four members of the Arizona State University women’s water polo team were honored.

Attacker Izabella Chiappini earned second-team accolades to lead the award haul while goalkeeper E.B. Keeve and center Alkistis Benekou were named to the honorable mention team. Lena Mihailovic was named to the All-Freshman team as well.

For Chiappini, there was no sophomore slump in 2015, earning her first All-MPSF distinction while leading the Sun Devils with 56 goals and adding 23 assists – also leading the team. Her 79 total points were easily tops on the team – more than 20 points more than any other Sun Devil.

Her 56 goals were the eighth-highest single game tally in ASU history.

Chiappini was also the team leader in steals with 26 and drew 22 exclusions on the season – the third-highest total on the team.

Keeve had yet another outstanding year in the cage, leading the MPSF in averaging 12.75 saves per game with an MPSF-leading 239 total saves on the season. It was the third All-MPSF selection of Keeve’s career.

The 12.75 saves per game is set a new ASU school record for a single season, breaking her own record of 12.55 saves per game set last season. Her 239 total saves are eighth most in program lore. Keeve now has 936 career saves and is well on pace to challenge Caylinn Wallace’s school record of 1,087 during her senior campaign next year.

Benekou was a force in the middle in her sophomore season, finishing second on the team with 41 goals on the season. She also drew a team-leading 54 exclusions to earn her second career All-MPSF honor.

Mihailovic did a little bit of everything for the Sun Devils, earning a starting spot right out the gates despite only being in Tempe for about two weeks prior to the first games of the season. The youngster finished fourth on the team with 27 goals and second on the team with 19 assists for a grand total of 46 points. She was second on the team with 17 steals and fourth with 19 exclusions drawn.
