Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002:
The first day of the Terrell Suggs Football Awards Show tour started Sunday at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. Terrell checked two bags, grabbed his CD player and embarked on the first of many upcoming travel days. Please he was assigned an aisle seat for his 6-4 frame, Suggs waited to board the plane while talking to several curious fans in the airport.
"Who are you guys playing Big Guy?"
"Where are you off to?"
Those were just a few of the questions as he graciously took time to talk to everyone that approached him. With a smile of course, he said San Diego to play Kansas State.
The first leg of his journey would take him from Phoenix to Dallas/Fort Worth where he would have a one-hour layover. Despite some turbulence due to storms near Dallas, the flight went well arriving right on time. After the one-hour stopover in Dallas and a trip to McDonalds, T-Sizzled hopped back on an American Airlines jet headed for Charlotte. Again he had an aisle seat and had an open seat next to him due to the plane being half full.
"This is almost as good as first class," Suggs stated.
Upon arrival in Charlotte Terrell was greeted by his girl friend and an intern from the Charlotte Touchdown Club. After a 15-minute car ride where he asked questions about Bronko Nagurski, whom the award is named after, he checked into the Adams Mark hotel in downtown Charlotte and called it a day at 1 a.m. EST. En route to the hotel the car passed several signs for Ericsson Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers. Terrell was excited when he saw those signs as football is always in his mind at all hours.
Knowing wake-up call for a breakfast with the four other finalist would be coming at 7:30 a.m., he called it a day.
