How Do the Sun Devils Spell Relief? Tontozona
They don't call it the Valley of the Sun on accident and it's no coincidence that Sun Devil football squads have fled for the mountains every year since 1960. With temperatures above 100 degrees every day, the Sun Devil football team left for Camp Tontozona Wednesday in search of cooler weather as two-a-day drills began Thursday. ASU had held four night workouts on campus after the full squad reported to campus August 8.
Camp Tontozona is ASU's version of training camp. With school yet to begin, Sun Devil players and coaches devote eight days 100 miles from home preparing for the upcoming season which starts August 30 against New Mexico State.
All practices and scrimmages are open to the public in Payson, Ariz., home of Camp Tontozona. Due to the earlier than usual start of the season, the schedule is different than year's past. The schedule, please:
