About The Verde Dickey Dome
Affectionately called “the bubble” by most, the Verde Dickey Dome is a climate-controlled state-of-the-art practice facility used by Sun Devil Football to combat the sweltering heat of the desert.
The bubble is a 103,500 square foot dome containing a 75-yard practice field (with an end-zone) and a 45-yard practice field (also with an end zone). ASU selected FieldTurf as the playing surface for the dome — the same surface used by more than 40 major NCAA universities and 21 of the NFL's 32 teams.
Construction began in May of 2008, and Sun Devils Football began practicing inside the facility starting with the 2009 preseason camp. Besides being used for football practice, the dome is also utilized by the ASU marching band, ASU intramurals and for university summer football camps.
The Dome is named for Verde Dickey who generously donated the funds for the field construction.
