GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coming off a very successful conference meet, the Arizona State Women’s Swim and Dive Team is looking to make waves at the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships that begin Thursday, Mar. 19 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Devils managed to qualify eight competitors, six swimmers and two divers, making it six more athletes than last season.
On the swimming side, the Lady Devils will have two individual competitors, both sophomores, Kat Simonovic and Ingibjorg Jonsdottir. Entered in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, Kat is seeded 29th and 94th, respectively. Ingibjorg is also entered in two individual events, the 100 backstroke, where she is seeded 38th and the 50 freestyle, seeded 75th.
Jonsdottir and Simonovic will be joining their teammates, Juanita Barreto, Marina Spadoni, Jorie Caneta and Melanie Busch to help make up the ASU relays. The ladies will look to show the rest of the field what they are made of, with the 800 freestyle and 200 medley relays being swum on Friday, Mar. 20.
In the diving, senior Hailey Casper and freshman Mara Aiacoboae will be holding it down for the Devils. After placing 3rd at the Pac-12 Championships, Casper is looking to finish off her ASU career in similar style. Casper will compete in the 3m springboard event, while Aiacoboae will compete all three disciplines, both 1m and 3m springboard, and 10m platform.
