Skattebo ran for two more touchdowns, giving him ten touchdowns on the ground in his final four games. He now has 21 rushing touchdowns on the season, surpassing Woody Green’s historic campaign with 19 touchdowns in 1972. He is the only Sun Devil to reach 20 touchdowns on the ground in a year. Skattebo ran for two or more touchdowns in eight games this season, including each of his his final four.

 Skattebo now has 24 total touchdowns (21 rushing + 3 receiving), breaking a tie with Wilford White’s program record of 22 set in 1950. He now owns three of the most significant statistical offensive records at Arizona State.

In a Skattegory of His Own
Skattebo is the only player in the country with 1,000+ rushing yards and 400+ receiving yards, even with a missed game. He now has 1700+ rushing and 600+ receiving yards. Skattebo is the first Big 12 player ever to have at least 1,500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in the same season. He is the first FBS player to do it since Christian McCaffrey for Stanford in 2015. He now has the second-most receiving yards of any running back as well as the second-most rushing yards of any player.

STARTING STRONG
The Sun Devils did not punt on an opening drive this season, scoring on the first drive in 11 of 14 games. They have touchdowns in eight of those (field goals against Wyoming, Iowa State, and Texas), threw interceptions on the opening drives against Utah and Texas Tech and turned the ball over on downs against UCF.

ASU scored on 78.6 percent of its opening drives this season, a total that ranks 2nd in the FBS behind only Army (12-for-14; 85.7%).

Texas gained 77 yards on its first two plays of the game before the Sun Devil defense locked in to limit the Longhorns to just 56 yards on 19 plays for the remainder of the half (2.9 yards per play).

ODDS AND ENDS
  • This is Arizona State's 11th game this season with a sack, its most in a season since 2019 (also 11). 
  • ASU had two sacks on Texas’s first drive of the second half, the third time this season ASU had two sacks in one quarter. 
  • Kanyon Floyd became the first Big 12 punter to complete a pass in a bowl game. He is the first ASU punter to have multiple passing completions in a season since Chris MacDonald in 2004 (also two). 
  • Blazen Lono-Wong became the fourth FBS defensive lineman to record a 30+ yard play from scrimmage on offense in a bowl game since 2012.
  • He became just the sixth Big 12 defensive lineman since 2003 to record a offensive play of 30+ yards.
  • The connection between Floyd and Lono-Wong was just the second 30+ yard play by a Big 12 team from a punter to a defensive lineman since 2003. 
  • Leavitt the 2nd ASU player since 1996 to have 200+ passing yards and 60+ rushing yards in a bowl game, along with Taylor Kelly against Navy in 2012.
  • Sam Leavitt now has 46 passing plays this season of 20+ yards. The last ASU player with that many in a season was Manny Wilkins in 2017 (47).
  • Leavitt was the first ASU player with 16+ passing attempts in a first quarter since Taylor Kelly on August 28, 2014 (17). It was the second-most for a Big 12 quarterback in a first quarter of a bowl game since 2012. 
  • His 27 first-half attempts were the second-most for an ASU QB since 2012 (Mike Bercovici 28 vs. UCLA in 2014).
SKATTEBO STUFF
  • Skattebo accounted for 284 total yards of offense (143 rushing, 99 receiving, 42 passing). That was equal or more than 11 of Texas’s 14 prior opponents’ TOTAL TEAM yards of offense this season. 
  • Skattebo had his sixth game this season with 4+ receptions, tied with D.J. Foster for the second-most in a a season for ASU behind Marion Grice’s 9 since 1996.
  • Cam Skattebo is the only FBS OR NFL player since at least  1996 to record 100+ rush yards, 75+ receiving yards, a passing TD & a 2-point conversion in a single game (including postseason games)
  • Cam Skattebo is the 6th Big 12 player all-time to have 140+ rushing yards & 2+ rushing TD in four straight games (first since 2002):

GETTING DEFENSIVE
ASU’s third quarter safety was its first since the 2021 Arizona game. It was ASU’s first safety in a bowl game since at least 1996.

TALKING OFFENSE
  • ASU recorded 510 total yards of offense against the Longhorns - the most allowed by Texas this season. Texas entered the bowl season ranked third in the FBS in allowing just 249.5 yards per game. It was the first time Texas had given up 500+ yards of offense since playing Washington in the CFP last season (532).
  • ASU scored 31 points in the game against a Texas defense that entered the bowl season ranked second in the FBS in allowing just 12.5 points per game. It was the most allowed by the Longhorns this season.
  • ASU recorded 296 passing yards against the nation’s No. 1 ranked passing defense, which had allowed just 143.1 passing yards per game entering the bowl season.
  • ASU had 214 rush yards against the nation;s No. 15 ranked rushing defense, which had allowed just 106.4 points per game entering the bowl season. Cam Skattebo’s 143 rushing yards were the most allowed to an opponent player by Texas since Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughn in the final game 2021 season (also 143) - a 41-game stretch. 
  • ASU’s 16 fourth quarter points were its third-most in a bowl game since at least 1996.
