TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State seniors Ed Carter and Elizabeth McNabb were amongst the list of 1999-2000 Pacific-10 Conference Medal winners, announced Monday by Commissioner Tom Hansen.
A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics ad leadership.
Carter, a men's tennis player from Columbus, Ohio, capped the 1999-2000 season with his third consecutive selection to the GTE Region VIII Academic All-American Team. He served as team captain and played primarily at the No. 2 singles position and No. 1 doubles slot, where he reached as high as fourth in the national rankings while paired with Alex Osterrieth. Carter's finest season came in 1998-99, when he was a doubles All-American, finished with a No. 9 ranking and compiled a 22-17 singles record.
A two-time First Team All-American in women's gymnastics, McNabb won a share of the floor exercise title at the 2000 Pac-10 Championships with her 9.925 performance. In addition, the Houston, Texas native served as a team co-captain this season and earned her third straight Pac-10 All-Academic Team selection. McNabb can also boast a perfect 10.0 on the floor as a junior in 1999, when she finished the regular season ranked first nationally in the exercise.
