Brun And Garcia Earn Academic All-American Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University softball players Kara Brun and Adriana Garcia were both selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-American Softball Teams, announced Thursday. Brun earned second-team accolades and Garcia third team, making Arizona State the only school in the entire Pacific-10 Conference to have players listed as Academic All-Americans.

Brun, a senior shortstop from Glendale, Arizona, makes her second appearance on the All-American Team after claiming second-team honors as a junior. Brun is also a three-time Academic All-Pac-10 selection and holds a 3.33 grade-point average in communications. In addition, Brun started in every game during her four-year career (243) and is Arizona State's all-time leader in home runs (34), doubles (50) and RBIs (165). This past season, Brun batted .392 with 67 hits and 13 doubles, all team-highs.

Garcia, a senior catcher from Riverside, California, earns her first honor on the All-American Team. Garcia carries a 3.50 grade-point average in elementary education and is a two-time Maroon and Gold Scholar Athlete. Garcia also had her best year on the field as well, starting all 57 games with a .285 average. She slugged eight home runs and batted in 32 runs (both third-highest on the team), while throwing out 14 runners and posting a career-high .994 fielding percentage.
