Breedlove Earns National Honor

Feb. 25, 1998

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State senior right handed pitcher Carrie Breedlove has been honored as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Week for NCAA Division I softball.

Arizona State (10-1, 0-0 Pac-10), ranked No. 7 in this week's USA Today/NFCA Division I Softball Poll, is currently on an eight-game winning streak. Breedlove has been a major factor in the Sun Devils success this season by compiling an unblemished 5-0 record with two no hitters.

Breedlove's first no hitter came against the University of Detroit at the Coca-Cola Classic as the Sun Devils run ruled the Titans 8-0 in five innings. She fired her second no hitter at the ASU Classic against Ball State as ASU run ruled the Cardinals 10-0 in five innings. Against UNLV, Breedlove nearly pulled off a perfect game as she took it into the seventh inning before giving up one hit in a 6-0 shutout.

In 30.2 innings of work, the Sunland, California native has a perfect 0.00 earned run average, compiled four shutouts, allowed only 15 hits, strukout 25 and only walked three batters.

In addition to Breedlove's national honor, she was also selected the Pac-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Up next, Arizona State heads to the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia for a three-day tournament beginning Friday, February 27 thru March 1.
