ANNECY, France - Arizona State's Tony Berrian finished eighth in the 400-meter finals of the 7th IAAF/Coca-Cola World Junior Championships in Annecy, France. Berrian ran a 47.30, his slowest time of the Championships, to finish 1.76 seconds behind Nigeria's Nduka Awazie, who took home the gold medal with a personal-best time of 45.54.
Awazie edged Australia's Casey Vincent by one-hundredth of a second. Ohio State's Andrew Pierce, the only other American in the race, finished sixth at 46.30. Only Berrian and Pierce did not run personal bests in the field of eight.
