Baseball Blanks Boston College, 11-0.

March 20, 1999

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 15th-ranked Arizona State baseball team (21-10, 0-3 Pac-10) shut out the Boston College Eagles tonight 11-0 in front 2,829 fans at Packard Stadium.

The Devils scored the first runs of the night in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead, and that was all ASU needed. Shortstop Willie Bloomquist had his first four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore catcher Casey Myers had a good evening, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, his third and fourth of the season, two runs scored and one RBI. Second baseman Mark Ernster went a perfect 3-for-3, with two runs scored and one RBI. The Devils, who had 10 hits through the third inning, were also led by Brooks Conrad and Chip Gosewisch, both who chipped in two hits a piece. Junior Mitch Jones came off the bench in the third inning to knock a solo home run over the right field fence, his fifth round tripper of the season.

Sophomore pitching phenom Will Waldrip pitched his fourth complete game of the season, and his third complete game shutout. Waldrip gave up only three hits, struck out six and gave up no walks. This was the second time this season Waldrip has pitched a complete game without giving up any free bases. Waldrip also had two streaks tonight where he retired 10 straight batters.

Head coach Pat Murphy was pleased with Waldrip's outing.

"Will Waldrip might have had his best outing of the year tonight," Murphy said. "And Casey Myers did an excellent job behind the plate."

The Sun Devils continue the four-game series with Boston College tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Packard Stadium. Call 965-2381 for ticket information.
