Arizona State (38-19, 11-10 Pac-10 and ranked No. 25 Baseball America, No. 24 Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll and No. 25 Collegiate Baseball) end the regular season with a three-game conference series with Arizona (31-20, 11-10 Pac-10) at Packard Stadium.
THIS WEEK ON THE TV AND RADIO -- FOX Sports Arizona will broadcast Saturday's game live. Tom Dillon and Vince Coleman will provide the play-by-play and color commentary. COX Sports (Cable Ch. 9) will broadcast Friday night's game live if the Sun's lose tonight. If the Suns win tonight, COX Sports will broadcast the Suns playoff game instead of ASU baseball. George Allen and Doug Gerlach will supply the play-by-play and color commentary respectively. KMVP 860 AM will broadcast all three games this week. Trey Bender and Bob Eger will provide the play-by-play and color commentary respectively.

BLOOMQUIST runs hitting streak to 17 games -- Leadoff batter Willie Bloomquist (Port Orchard, Wash.) went six-for-16(.375) this weekend to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. For the weekend, he had three runs scored and six RBI while hitting his ninth homer of the season. He leads the squad in multiple-hit games with 31 and multiple-RBI games with 23. The '99 All-American candidate has drawn a team-leading 48 walks as well as a team-leading 96 hits and 92 runs scored. He needs just four hits to post his second consecutive 100+ hits season. The last player to post back-to-back 100+ hit season was Kevin Romine in 1981 (102) and 1982 (121). His 92 runs scored ranks sixth in ASU history for a single season (the single season record is 101). If he reaches 100 in both hits and runs this season, he will become only the second Sun Devil in history to accomplish the feat in a single season (Oddibe McDowell had 117 hits and 101 runs in 1984). Bloomquist is batting .532 as a leadoff batter and is batting .473 with runners in scoring position. He is first on the squad in two-out RBI with 27 on the year. His 22 career triples puts him in second all-time in the Pac-10 (the record is 29 by Chip Hale, Arizona, '84-'87). He is second on the team in stolen bases with 30 and needs only four to eclipse his total from last year (33). He has 69 career stolen bases which is tied for fifth all-time at ASU.
WALDRIP SETTLES FOR NO-DECISION VS. THE HUSKIES -- Junior transfer Will Waldrip (Flagstaff, Ariz.) lasted only 3.1 innings in a no decision as ASU defeated Washington 7-6 in 12 innings on Friday evening. The lefthander allowed six hits and four earned runs in his fifth no decision of the season. He is the first ASU pitcher since 1994 to record 10 or more wins in a season (In 1994 Kaipo Spenser went 10-0 and Noah Peery went 11-2). He currently leads the staff in wins (10), complete games (4), innings pitched (107.1) and strikeouts (97). He is 5-0 in his last nine starts and is 2-1 in six starts in Pac-10 play. He is the first ASU pitcher to record four complete games since Kaipo Spencer logged five.

INJURY REPORT -- Senior transfer Donny Starkins had surgery on his left knee over spring break and is out for the season. Freshman infielder Gonzo Grasis (Tucson, Ariz.) has had surgery on his left wrist and will be out for the season. Sophomore Casey Myers fractured his right thumb in Sunday's game vs. Southern Utah. He is out for the remainder of the regular season. RHP Chad Pennington has been hampered by a nagging abdominal strain but is probable for this weekend.

ALL IN THE FAMILY -- Three father/son combinations have played at Arizona State including current Sun Devils Casey Myers and Brian Berger. Myers father Clint played at ASU from 1971-73 while Berger's father Bill played for the Devils from 1970-71-73. Father Eddie Bane (1971-73) and son Jaymie Bane (1997) round out the trio of father/son combos to don the Sun Devils uniform. Pat Murphy now in his fifth season at Arizona State after spending seven years at Notre Dame, has left his mark on Arizona State baseball. In his first year, Murphy guided ASU to a 34-21 record and put together the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. In 1996, he directed ASU to a 35-21 record and a No. 25 final ranking by Baseball America. The 1997 season marked ASU's return to postseason play as ASU went 3-2 in the Atlantic Regiona, narrowly missing out on a trip to Omaha. The Devils finished with a 39-22 record and a No. 11 ranking by Baseball America and No. 14 ranking by Collegiate Baseball. Murphy has also started the Pitch-by-Pitch Baseball Academy which holds baseball camps and clinics year round, not only in Phoenix, but around the country as well. Last season, he was honored as Baseball America's Coach of the Year after guiding the Devils to a second-place showing at the College World Series. The '98 squad went 41-23, 18-11 (3rd) in conference. They won the Midwest Regional with a 3-1 victory over Georgia Tech to advance to the CWS for the first time since 1994.
The Syracuse, N.Y., native's Notre Dame teams recorded 45 or more wins in six of seven seasons and advanced to the finals of an NCAA Regional each of the last three seasons.
He also has international coaching experience, guiding the Dutch National Team to the European championship in the summer of 1987, and helping to develop baseball in Australia as a state manager in New South Wales in 1984.
