    Bonds hit .347 in his three years in the Maroon and Gold, being named a two-time All-Pac-10 member in 1984-85... his 23 home runs during his junior season still ranks third in school history behind Bob Horner (25) and Mitch Jones (27)... member of the all-College World Series team in 1983 and 1984... all-Pac-10 Conference in 1984 and 1985... MVP of the 1983 West II Regional Tournament at ASU... a preseason All-America selection by Baseball America in 1985... hit .360 with 11 home runs in 1984... also belted 20 doubles, stole 30-of-45 bases and knocked in 55 runs... tied a College World Series record with hits in seven consecutive at-bats... was named ESPN's amateur athlete of the week for his performance in the 1984 CWS... one of the few freshmen to start at ASU and also hit .300 during his rookie campaign... hit two home runs as a freshman in the 1983 CWS... collected six game-winning hits during his sophomore year of 1984... hit into only one double play in 1984 as well... his 11 home runs in 1983 remain an ASU Freshman record... led the team with 11 home runs and 54 RBI during his freshman season... his .568 slugging percentage in 1983 also led the club... hit a mammoth tape-measure homer over ASU's "Green Monster" in center field (one of only 18 players to do so since 1972) vs. BYU in the 1983 NCAA West II Regional... went 3-for-3 in that game vs. BYU with four runs scored and four RBI... completed his first regional in college ball going 6-for-11 at the plate... son of ex-major leaguer Bobby Bonds... was clocked during his college days at 9.5 seconds in the 100-yeard dash and 4.3 in the forty... second round draft choice of the San Francisco Giants out of high school in the June 1982 free agent draft.


    A graduate of Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif. (suburb of San Francisco)... lettered three years in baseball, two in basketball and one year in football... prep baseball team won conference and division titles each of his three years as a starter... was named to the all-city, all-league, and all-state teams each of his three seasons... led the prep league in home runs, total bases and stolen bases each of his high school years... was team captain during his senior season.
