The other day Barry Bonds was injured after hitting a ground ball. My question is if Bonds would have been injured in the previous at bat when he homered and couldn't reach 1st base would he be out? Would the homerun count?Do you have a certain amount of time to reach base? Would a courtesy or pinch runner be allowed?
Coach Murphy: If Barry Bonds had been injured when he hit the home run and was not able to run the bases, the home run would still count and a pinch runner would be allowed to run for him.

Which school do you feel is your biggest rival? Is it UA (which you have dominated), USC , or other? Thank you very much for a wonderful season. You and your staff are the reason that I am interested in ASU baseball. You are a great coach and a True Sun Devil. Good luck in the postseason.
Coach Murphy: Thank you for your comments about ASU baseball. We have a great staff and team. To answer your question, I think that U of A is our biggest rival because there is so much history between us. But we do have some other special rivalries including USC.

Me and my three sons are big Devil fans, my question is after being blacked balled by the tournament committee last year and being picked 7th in the Pac what did you tell the team to make them come out and play like they did every weekend and are you going to change the pitching rotation for the tournament? Thank you Coach for your time and good luck. Lets make the Devils #1 again
Coach Murphy: The team's performance this year had nothing to do with what I told them. They have played so well and been successful because of their character and the type of kids they are. I haven't yet decided on the pitching plan for this weekend.

Although LFP Jon Switzer is not draft eligible after this season, what is the buzz concerning him as a pro prospect? Could you give a quick scouting report (pitches, velocity, etc.) and some areas he still needs improvement? Congrats to you and the team on a fine season so far, and to Jon for the Team USA invitation.
Coach Murphy: Jon will be drafted in the first three rounds. He still needs to develop mentally as a pitcher and develop all of his pitches. I don't want to get more specific than that because I don't know where this information will end up.

I am a long time ASU & college baseball fan. I will be attending the college world series this year for the 10th straight year. My question to you is two fold 1) do you like the new 64 team seeding for the regional and super regional concept and 2) do you think we will ever see the final CWS game turn into a final series (best of 3) instead of just one game? Thanks Coach and hope to cheer you on in Omaha!
Coach Murphy: Yes, I like the new regional and super-regional format. It creates a lot more interest in college baseball. That's a great idea you have about a best of three format for the CWS. I think it would be great because it would lead to more TV exposure for the teams playing.
