WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA STATE senior Ashley Kelly has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Mar. 7 - Mar. 12, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Kelly, a senior from York, Pa., competing on senior night in her final home meet at Arizona State University, stole the show and won her 20th career all-around title with a score of 39.875, which represents the nation's best all-around score this year. Kelly improved upon her own school record of 20 all-around wins. Kelly's 39.875 all-around score tied her career-best as she has posted that score three times now in her brilliant career.
Kelly's performance helped the then-No. 14 Sun Devils to an upset of No. 4 Iowa State, 197.75 197.0 at Wells Fargo Arena, March 10. ASU's team score of 197.75 is the nation's best team score this year.
Kelly won the balance beam competition with a perfect 10.0, the first by a gymnast nationally this year. It was the third perfect 10.0 on beam of her career and the eighth career 10.0 including all events.
Kelly also won the floor exercise with a 9.95 (season-high) and won on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.95. She finished tied for second on vault with a 9.975, also a season-best.
The Sun Devils wrap up the regular season at the University of Denver, March 18 at 6 p.m. They then head to the Pac-10 Championships in Corvallis, Ore., on March 25.
