TEMPE, Ariz. - D'Metra Macedon, a member of the Arizona State University track and field program, was recently recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as one its annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award, the Association announced this week. Used to recognize a student-athlete's dedication to strength training and conditioning, the award was bestowed upon 239 collegiate athletes from 165 institutions from around the nation.
Macedon was selected for the honor by Sun Devil Sports Performance Coach Ben Hilgart, CSCS, who said, "Macedon is an exceptional person who has a tremendous work ethic and brings a great amount of positive energy with her each day in the weight room, on the track and in the classroom."
Robert Jursnick, NSCA's Executive Director, adds, "The advantages of strength training and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate athletics. These student-athletes attest to this understanding and are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication."
The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 28th year and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tenn., fitness product leader.
Macedon, along with numerous other Sun Devils, will return to the track next weekend as they are set to compete in the 2007 Pac-10 Conference Championships. The Sun Devil women are the defending conference champions and will head to Stanford in search of their second title in a row.
