TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State swept the Men's Pac-10 Track and Field Athlete of the Week Awards, as Michael Campbell and David Wood each were honored by the conference for their efforts during the week of April 9-15.
Campbell, a senior from Kingston, Jamaica, earned the men's track honor after clocking a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 45.74 to finish second in the 400 meters at the 22nd Annual Sun Angel Classic in Tempe Saturday. Campbell, who finished second only to Auburn's Avard Moncur with a meet record time of 44.88, turned in the fastest 400 meter time by a Pac-10 competitor this season. This is Campbell's first Pac-10 track athlete of the week award.
Taking home the men's field conference honor for this week was Wood, a junior from Pendleton, Ore. Wood won the shot put with a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 61 feet, 3.5 inches at the Mesa Classic Friday, April 13. He followed that performance with his second consecutive qualifying mark, a throw of 60 feet, 9.25 inches to place second at the Sun Angel Classic. This is also Wood's first career Pac-10 athlete of the week honor.
USC's Brigita Langerhole earned the women's track nod, running a nation-leading and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 2:04.77 to win the 800 meters at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. Tracy O'Hara from UCLA won the pole vault with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 13 feet, 9.25 in a double dual with Nebraska and Cal State Northridge to give her women's field athlete of the week honors.
This marks the second time this season the Pac-10 has awarded outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors.
