Arizona State standout Carlota Ciganda, who helped lead the Sun Devils to their seventh NCAA title, began her summer in record-breaking fashion. The native of Pamplona, Spain, carded a stunning 8-under 64 in the first round of the Spanish Individual National Championship. The score sets a new 18-hole record in Spain. Ciganda carded eight birdies and no bogeys in the feat and is currently in first by five strokes. Recent ASU grad Azahara Munoz is in second behind Ciganda at 3-under 69.
Ciganda finished a stellar freshman season in which she had eight top-20 finishes including two medalist honors. She received First-Team All-American accolades by the NGCA and is a finalist for the Honda Award.
