ASU Softball's Amber Freeman Named Academic All-American

TEMPE – For the second straight season, Arizona State University softball senior Amber Freeman has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday.

Freeman was honored as one of 11 First-Team selections, just two days after being named an NFCA First-Team All-American as well. Freeman was one of four players to earn both First-Team All-America and First-Team Academic All-America honors. She also become just the third player in ASU history to earn First-Team honors on both lists, joining the elite company of Katelyn Boyd (2011, ’12) and Kaitlin Cochran (2008, ’09).

It was the first First-Team honor of Freeman’s career after earning a Second-Team nod last season. Freeman is also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection. Now a member of the USSSA Pride National Pro Fastpitch team, Freeman finished her career with a 3.37 GPA and a B.S. in health sciences (Healthy Lifestyles Coaching) and minoring in family and human development.

Freeman finished her time at ASU with a .389 career batting average, good for third in ASU’s all-time record book.  She was also fourth in ASU history with 56 career home runs, fifth with 197 RBI, fourth with 267 total hits and tied for fifth with 46 doubles.

Freeman’s selection marked the fifth straight year the Sun Devils have had a player named Academic All-American and the team has had at least one selection in seven of the past eight seasons. Her selection is the 19th overall Academic All-America nod in program history.
