ASU Men's Golf Ranked Fourth In MasterCard Rankings

May 24, 2000

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Clemson University men's golf team is the top-ranked team in the seventeenth edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. The MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, which are administered by the College Golf Foundation and compiled by Golfstat in cooperation with the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), are determined by a computerized system based strictly on performance during the 1999-2000 collegiate golf season. The Arizona State Sun Devils are ranked fourth in the rankings and will tee off next week in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships against fifth-ranked BYU and sixth-ranked and defending NCAA champion Georgia.

Clemson, which won the NCAA East Regional this past weekend, is the top-ranked men's team in the MasterCard Rankings for first time since the final fall edition of the rankings on December 1, 1999. The Tigers, who have won three tournaments so far this season, have won their last two tournaments including the ACC Championship last month. Arizona State has won four tournaments on the year, including the Pac-10 Championship.

The 2000 Men's Golf Championships are May 31-June 3 at the Grand National Golf Club Lake Course in Opelika, Ala., seven miles north of Auburn, who is hosting the event.
