Fresno, Calif. - The Arizona State men's golf team assured itself of a 17th consecutive national championships appearance by virtue of a sixth place tie at the NCAA West Regional, which concluded Saturday at the Riverbend Golf Course in Fresno, Calif.
The Sun Devils shot a five-under-par 283 in Saturday's final round, the third-lowest team score of the afternoon. Arizona won the Regional championship with a three-day total of 839 (-25).
Junior Jin Park led the ASU contingent by placing in a tie for fifth at -6 (210), six strokes behind tournament winner Michael Beard of Pepperdine. Full results are available on the Fresno State University website at www.gobulldogs.com.
The top 10 teams from the West Regional will play in the 2000 NCAA Division I Championships, conducted May 31-June 3 at the Grand National Golf Complex in Opelika, Ala. ASU has won two national titles (1990 and 1996) and has finished amongst the top-10 in each of the past 12 seasons, including a fifth place showing in 1999.
