TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University senior gymnast Ashley Kelly (York, Penn.) and freshman Nicole Harris (Long Beach, N.Y.) earned All-America honors for the 2006 season. Kelly earned first-team All-America accolades on the balance beam while Harris earned second-team honors on the beam. At the NCAA Championships, Kelly recorded a 9.8375 to finish third on the uneven bars.
Kelly was a first-team All-American in the all-around and on the balance beam in 2004. That season she also earned second-team accolades on the vault and floor exercise. In 2004, Kelly became the fourth Sun Devil in school history to win the national championship on the balance beam and first to accomplish the feat since Elizabeth Reid did it in 1997. At the North Central Regional championships, Kelly captured her 22nd all-around title of her career.
At the NCAA Championships, Harris scored a 9.85 on balance beam to put herself in a tie for fifth place. She tied for the championship on the bars at the North Central Regional scoring a 9.900. This season, Harris ranked 20th nationally on the beam (9.865).
The Sun Devils finished ninth at the NCAA Championships held in Corvallis, Ore. It was its fourth top-10 finish in the last six years and the 19th top-10 finish in head coach John Spini's 26 years at Arizona State.
