TEMPE, Ariz.--D.J. Foster, the Arizona State University wide receiver who announced in December that he was returning for his senior season as a Sun Devil, has been named a 2015 Preseason Third-Team All-American by Phil Steele's College Football Preview, the publication announced Monday.
Foster, who played running back for his first three years under Head Coach Todd Graham, returns as the only active Football Bowl Subdivision student-athlete to account for more than 1,500 career rushing yards and 1,500 career receiving yards. Foster led the Sun Devils in 2014 with 1,081 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He also finished second on the team in receiving with 62 receptions for 688 yards and three touchdowns. In 2014 Foster was the only player in the nation with over 1,000 rushing yards and over 600 receiving yards. He also caught a pass in every game, extending a streak that now stands at 40 games. For his efforts he was named to the All-Pacific-12 Conference Second-Team.
Foster earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors after a sophomore season that saw him lead the nation in receiving yards by a running back and was second overall on the Sun Devil squad with 653 yards. He also was second on the team in all-purpose yardage with 1,170 and second in receptions with 63. He scored a combined 10 touchdowns (six rushing and four receiving). He was one of only five FBS players in 2012 who surpassed 400 yards rushing and in the air to return and once again accomplished that feat in 2013.
Foster, of Scottsdale, Arizona's Saguaro High School, was recently selected by his teammates as a team captain for 2015.
