Arizona State Women's Soccer Lands Former Harvard Assistant

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's soccer program has hired Stephanie Erickson as its new assistant coach, Head Coach Terri Patraw announced Wednesday.

Erickson will assist the Sun Devil soccer team in all the daily aspects on the field, as well as an emphasis on recruiting.

Erickson comes to Tempe after holding the first assistant position at Harvard University under Head Coach Tim Wheaton, who was named the 1999 Northeast Region Coach of the Year and Soccer Buzz National Coach of the Year.

This past season, Erickson help lead Harvard to the Ivy League Championship and an eighth-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Harvard finished the year ranked 15th in the country and third in its region.

Prior to Harvard, Erickson was an assistant coach at the University of California-Berkeley, where she helped lead the Golden Bears to the 1998 Pac-10 Co-Championship title and a NCAA Tournament bid.

"We're excited about having a person with her type of background join our program," says Patraw. "Stephanie's experience at three different school's will bring ASU a greater level of maturity to help move our program forward."

Additionally, Erickson has vast experience working at various soccer camps throughout the nation, including being the assistant director at the Harvard and California camps.

In the collegiate ranks, Erickson was a four-year starter at the University of Northwestern from 1994-98. While at Northwestern, Erickson became the school's all-time leading scorer and earned Offensive Most Valuable Player honors in 1994, 1996 and 1997.

She also earned second-team All-Big Ten and Great Lakes Region accolades, as well as the Big Ten scoring title in 1996. In addition, Erickson holds the NCAA record for fastest consecutive goals scored in a game (five seconds apart).

Academically, Erickson was a three-time Big Ten All-Academic team selection and Dean's List recipient. She graduated from Northwestern in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in Secondary Education and Spanish.
