Arizona State Women's Basketball Program Signs Australian Standout

April 13, 2006

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's basketball program today announced that Gabby Fage has signed a letter of intent to study and compete at ASU beginning next fall.

A 5-11 guard, Fage will be joining the Sun Devil women's basketball team from Australia where she played for the Nunawading Specters club team. Last fall Fage was part of the Melbourne Roos Australian Team which toured the United States playing against collegiate women's basketball teams around the country. Most recently, Fage captained the under 18 Victorian State team, which ended up being the runner-up in the under 18 Australian National Junior Classic in addition to winning gold at the Victorian Club Championships. Fage was also recently selected for the under 19 Australian Gems squad, which will compete in the 2007 World Championships.

"We are thrilled to have Gabby as part of our ASU family," said ASU head coach Charli Turner Thorne. "She is an extremely talented basketball player who has consistently been an integral part of winning programs. Gabby is a very intelligent player and a proven scorer. She is going to be an awesome Sun Devil."

In 2003, Fage captained her under 16 club team, which won the under 16 Australian National Junior Classic and was runner-up in the Victorian Club Championships. In 2004, Fage was selected for the senior women's development team which went on to win the Victorian League Basketball Championship Series in which she was the top scorer in the first game with 18 points to go along with seven blocks and five assists.

In addition to playing for the Nunawading Specters club team, Fage also played for the Belgrave South Red Devils club team earlier in her career and attended Upwey High School. Also coming up through that exact same path (Nunawading, Belgrave and Upwey) was current Phoenix Mercury F Penny Taylor.

Fage will be joining a Sun Devils team, which in addition to a four-member signing class, will return 10 players, including four of five starters, from the 2005-06 team which tied the school record for wins with 25 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
