TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State volleyball team notched five-game wins over Connecticut and George Washington today in the Airport Hilton/Sun Devil Challenge being held in the Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores versus Uconn were 15-13, 15-6, 13-15, 8-15, 15-7. Game scores versus George Washington were 15-10, 15-10, 13-15, 11-15, 15-10.
"We played with a lot of spirit," said head coach Patti Snyder-Park. "We only had nine players available tonight and I thought they really pulled together. I was proud."
Against the Huskies, freshman Jami Coughlin led the Devils with 20 kills and 19 digs. Junior Amanda Burbridge chipped in 17 kills and 15 digs.
Against the Colonials, Coughlin notched a career-high 24 kills and 12 digs. Setter Jolynn Faatulu added four kills, four service aces, 18 digs, two block solos and three block assists.
"Jami (Coughlin) was rock solid," noted Snyder-Park. "She is just a money player. She's so good all the way around."
The Sun Devils are next in action at the Airport Hilton/Sun Devil Challenge on Saturday, September 5 at 3 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Arena versus No. 20 Loyola Marymount. Connecticut takes on George Washington at 1 p.m. Admission to the tournament is free.
