TEMPE, Ariz.-As of August 15, 2002, Arizona State University will close its daily football practices to the general public, ASU Director of Athletics Gene Smith announced Friday.
The new policy will not have any effect on several Sun Devil constituencies, including former players and coaches, parents and families of student-athletes, high school coaching staffs and members of the media. Media will continue to conduct interviews before practice (except on Fridays of game week) and be allowed to shoot individual drill footage during the first 30 minutes of practice.
Other persons who wish to watch practice on a certain day will be asked to call the football office ahead of time and ask to be placed on a pass list. Security will then ask to see appropriate identification before the person will be allowed to enter the practice field area.
All practices at Camp Tontozona (Aug. 6-14), spring practice and at least one fall scrimmage will continue to be open to the general public. The majority of ASU's practices are held at the Bill Kajikawa Practice Facility, east of Rural Road and across the street from the Whiteman Tennis Center.
