SDA Media Relations Internship
Sun Devil Athletics Media Relations and Communication internship opportunities may be available for course credit depending on the college and course requirements. The Media Relations and Communication internship may be also used for professional development. Priority will be given to those needing internship course credits.
Athletic Media Relations Internship: The Athletic Office for Media Relations seeks an intern or interns to assist the media relations office with day-to-day responsibilities that include, but may not be limited to: answering media requests, staffing press conferences, assisting with printables, as well as staffing the media operations for Sun Devil Athletics events. This internship will include working with various SDA departments by fulfilling their specific team-related requests. This internship will provide hands-on experience working within a BCS/Big 12 athletic department, networking within Sun Devil Athletics and outside media entities. The Media Relations and Communications Internship must adhere to NCAA and Big 12 rules and regulations, as well as the policies of the department, the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain sport and athlete files for archival purposes
• Fulfill media requests for photos and misc. ASU archival material
• Assist with digital archiving of sport and athlete material
• Write press releases for media outlets and help maintain TheSunDevils.com
• Work sporting events as assigned, and assist sport-specific SID with duties
• Distribute to media reps statistical information at sporting events
• Assist with photo and video shoots by coordinating student athletes for assigned photo shoots
• Transcribe press conferences for media outlets
• Attend a predetermined minimum amount of Olympic sporting events as assigned
• Adhere to NCAA and Big 12 rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of the department, the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents.
• Will perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have been accepted by and enrolled in a degree program at Arizona State University.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Evidence of proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel and familiarity in Associated Press (AP) style of writing and formatting. Evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to paying attention to detail and in the use of proofreading skills.
-PLEASE NOTE: Internship candidates may be asked to demonstrate proficiency in sports writing or sports media prior to acceptance into the internship. While a lack of sports writing or media efficiency may not eliminate a candidate, priority will be given to those with demonstrated skill in the subject matter
• Previous experience in a sports related field (high school athlete, writing for a sports publication, etc.)
• Previous experience working in a professional work environment.
• Evidence of successfully developing and maintaining professional working relationships.
• Evidence of ability to efficiently perform multiple time-sensitive tasks.
SCHEDULE:
• Working hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• The ideal candidate will be available to put in at least four hours in the office each week and be available to assist at home sporting events as needed throughout the week. Appointments will begin on the first day of the fall semester, with the possibility of continuation based upon satisfactory job performance as determined by the supervisor. Initial compensation will be in the form of course credit (as needed). Successful job performance leading to a second year of appointment may result in a stipend.

Applications for Fall 2025 will begin being reviewed in June 2025. Applications for Spring 2025 will begin being reviewed in November 2024. The Digital Media internship is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2025 semester through the end of Spring 2026.
