THE FUTURE
- Saturday marked the first time in Sun Devil Football program history that ASU started a true freshman at both quarterback (Jake Fette) and running back (Cardae Mack).
MACK ATTACK
- True freshman Cardae Mack was outstanding yet again in a hostile road environment at No. 8 BYU.
- He finished with 123 rushing yards on 23 carries while adding 47 yards on five receptions.
- In two games on the road against Top-10 teams (No. 10 Texas Tech, No. 8 BYU), Mack has combined for 150 rushing yards and 64 receiving yards (214 total yards from scrimmage).
- Over his past four games, Mack has 69 carries for 463 yards (115.8 yards per game).
- Mack finished with the most carries (23) and rushing yards (123) this season with the previous highs being 17 and 94.
- He now has three games in which he has eclipsed the century mark on the ground. He is the first true freshman running back to accomplish the feat since Deantre Lewis in 2010.
LONG WAS STRONG
- Senior linebacker Owen Long led a fantastic defensive performance, with Arizona State holding BYU to under 300 total yards and only 47 yards rushing.
- Long finished with 10 tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass breakup in yet another productive outing.
- He now has 10 or more tackles in five of his last six games. In three seasons of college football, Long now has 15 double-digit tackle efforts.
- His 270 career tackles is currently Top-25 in the nation among active Division I players.
HOLD THE LINE
- Arizona State held BYU to only 47 rushing yards, the fourth time this season they have held an opponent to under 100 yards (almost 5 times; 102 by Morgan State).
- It is the first time this season BYU has been held to under 100 rushing yards.
- That is the fewest yards on the ground by the Cougars since they had nine against Kansas on Sept. 23, 2023.
- BYU came into the game averaging 193.7 rushing yards per game, which was 31st nationally.
QUICK HITS
- Derek Eusebio had a team-high seven catches and now has 16 catches over his past three games. It is the second time this season he has had seven receptions in a game.
- Arizona State forced two BYU turnovers, an interception and forced fumble. It was only the fifth interception thrown by Cougars’ quarterback Bear Bachmeier this season and only the third fumble lost by BYU.
SUN DEVIL TRUE FRESHMAN QB STARTS - Jake Fette joined the list of Sun Devil true freshmen quarterbacks to make starts that includes Jaden Rashada (2023), Joey Yellen (2019), Jayden Daniels (2019), Dillon Sterling-Cole (2016), Brock Osweiler (2009), Jake Plummer (1993), John Walker (1984) and Dennis Sproul (1974).
QBS UNDER KENNY
- Jake Fette became the eighth quarterback to start for Coach Kenny Dillingham in CKD’s 47th game as Sun Devil head coach.
- Cutter Boley (six starts), Mikey Keene (one vs. Kansas State), Sam Leavitt (20), Jeff Sims (seven), Trenton Bourguet (six), Jaden Rashada (two vs. Southern Utah and Oklahoma State in 2023) and Drew Pyne (one vs. USC in 2023) started 43, while ASU didn’t start a true QB in the final three games of 2023, snapping it to wide receiver Melquan Stovall to start the “swinging gate” victory at UCLA and then to Cam Skattebo in the final two game due to injuries and roster attrition.
