Tempe is a vibrant urban oasis in Metropolitan Phoenix and boasts an active and supportive triathlon community invested in seeing the NCAA triathlon movement grow. In fact, the state of Arizona hosts over 50 triathlon competitions annually. Tempe offers a warm and dry climate with scenic desert vistas—the perfect setting for triathlon participants and spectators, especially in November when the average temperature is approximately 75 degrees.
Tempe is home to major racing events including Ironman Arizona, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, and Pat’s Run. The City of Tempe also successfully hosted the 2013, 2014 and 2017 National Triathlon Championships for USA Triathlon.
Downtown Tempe is easily accessible by automobile and light rail. Tempe Town Lake would be the location of the race—this venue has hosted the Collegiate National Championships and countless other races, including the popular Ironman Arizona. It is widely considered a “spectator-friendly” course by the triathlon community. The water is specially treated for events so there is a high likelihood of having favorable conditions for a safe, fair swim.

Tempe is located four miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Sky Harbor serves all major airlines and it offers nonstop flights to most major cities in the U.S. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) is less than 30 miles from Tempe.
