11 Swimming & Diving Athletes Earn All-American Honors

Eleven members of the Arizona State swimming and diving program were named Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Three of the Sun Devil honorees were awarded First-Team Scholar Academic honors. Junior Hunter Atha, senior Melanie Busch and freshman Jorie Caneta all earned at least a 3.50 GPA last spring and qualified for the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Atha, who holds a 4.0 was the only Sun Devil diver who competed at the men’s championships in Iowa City; Busch and Caneta competed together on the 200 Free Relay at the women’s championships in Greensboro, NC. The other eight Sun Devil All-Americans earned honorable mention status.

The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative or term GPA of 3.5 or higher for the academic term coinciding with their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and have qualified for and competed at the Championship. Honorable mention recipients must have achieved a “B” time standard and hold a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Additionally, the women’s and men’s swimming and diving programs earned Scholar All-America Honors for the Spring 2015 semester.
