March 19, 2006

- The 2006 Judi Garman Classic kicked off its final day of competition today which saw the #10 Sun Devils (31-3) knock off the #23 Fresno State Bulldogs (18-12) 8-1 as the Devils moved into the championship game of the consolation bracket where the Devils will face the winner of Utah and #9 Michigan at 1 p.m. later today.

The Devils offense caught on fire against the Bulldogs as they tacked 11 hits and eight runs on the board with Rhiannon Baca chipping in for three Sun Devil hits and both Mindy Cowles and Bridgette Caron driving in three apiece. Desiree Serrano got the nod for start number 15, where she allowed only four hits and one run while fanning ten Bulldogs.

The game remained quiet between the Devils and Dogs until the third inning when the Devils broke the game open when the Bulldogs walked a run home followed with a single to second base from Bridgette Caron to drive one in followed with a huge double from Mindy Cowles to clear the bases and add three more as the Devils led the game 5-0 by the bottom of the third.

The Devils cushioned their lead in the fourth with a two RBI double to right field from Bridgette Caron as well as in the sixth inning with Michelle Smith being hit home from one of Rhiannon Baca's three hits to give the Devils a tally of eight. The Bulldogs were able to grab one run from the Devils in the sixth though, with Haley Perkins being hit home off a huge double to left center from Kristin Sylvester, giving the Bulldogs their only run of the game.

The Devils will have one more game to play in the Judi Garman Classic as they will vie for the championship of the consolation bracket against the winner of the #9 and game at 1 p.m.
